Construction Project Inspection Management

Within the industry, there are a few computer software applications often referred to as "punch list" software applications available in the marketplace. These punchlist software applications often fall short of a true construction project quality management/inspection system.

These punchlist software applications tend to be “defect recorders”, no less different than using a “yellow pad” to document defects for distribution to subcontractors. These applications do not present a project specific, detailed, consistent and repeatable inspection process guideline to use as a reference during inspections. These applications generate non-standardized punch list reports based on what an inspector may document during visual inspections using whatever terminology that the inspector decides to reference. The terminology referenced in these reports is often not consistent with the actual project design terminology referenced within the project's plan details. These applications focus on the collection of defects, generate non-standardized punch list reports and are often not customizable to take into consideration a company’s standard inspection process.

Punchlist software solutions such as these simple applications do not enable members of the inspection team know what has to be inspected and to what level of detail. These punchlist software programs merely allow defects to be documented based on what an inspector does know about the project and generate punch list reports based on the documented defects.

The E-Z Punch construction project inspection software solution is aimed at both property developers, general contractors and trade subcontractors who desire a detailed method of documenting and reporting on construction work product quality.

The E-Z Punch software system acts as a quality inspection “roadmap”, presenting a list of relevant inspection points assigned to a particular inspection process. This unique capability enables the inspector (user) to know what work items need to be inspected without having to constantly refer to the project design/build plans. Based on the implementation of standard construction inspection process templates, all project inspectors use similar methods and terminology to document defects throughout initial inspections and the defect back-checking process. Later these same standardized inspection results are referenced in all work product positive status and negative status (i.e. defect) reporting.

At the heart of any E-Z Punch inspection software system deployment is a core set of inspection list templates that contain the inspection points for any inspection process. Inspection lists can be set-up to address Framing, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Exterior, Waterproofing, Interior Finish inspections and any other inspection process.

At E-COMM Corporation, we are focused on documenting your company's inspection process and specific construction project inspection requirements. This method of deploying "quality inspections by design" result in the configuration and deployment of the E-Z Punch system software to enable your company to implement a consistent, repeatable, quality focused inspection process in support of your company efforts to achieve its quality goals while maintaining focus on a particular construction project.

The E-Z Punch Inspection Client application running on a Palm OS device, enables members of the construction project team to quickly document defects and work that has been performed as per the project’s design requirements. Handwritten punchlist reports are gone forever.

After performing inspections, the project team can generate a series of inspection reports including: Open Punch Reports by trade type, by Buildings, Floors, Units or Single Family Home, Commercial Office space unit, etc. In addition, E-Z Punch generates work Completion Summaries presenting the work product that has been deemed “accepted” by an inspector and Problem History reports to maintain a documented list of punch list items and deficiencies that have later been corrected.

A key aspect of the E-Z Punch implementation is for our team to perform live project inspections with the on-site project construction project team in order to fine-tune the system to operate as efficient as possible for inspection status documentation. This process ensures that the reports generated by the E-Z Punch system for the project's trade specific contractors are clear and concise to support your trade partners' efforts to repair any identified defects as efficiently as possible. The result is the reduction in trade partner/contractor management time.
